Why might my car not appear in the results?

importz only includes vehicles that already have a published Verohallinto import tax decision. If your exact car hasn't been imported (or the decision isn't published yet), it won't appear. Try a similar generation, year, or fuel type — or use the estimate tool for a comparable range.

Does importz cover vans and motorcycles?

Passenger cars are available now. Motorcycles and vans are planned when Verohallinto open data for those categories is wired in.

What is autovero (car tax)?

Autovero is the Finnish car tax payable when importing a vehicle. It's calculated from Verohallinto's assessed market value and a tax rate that depends on the vehicle — not from the price you paid.

What's the difference between assessed value and sale price?

These are two different numbers. The assessed value is what Verohallinto determines the vehicle is worth — based on market data, not what you actually paid. The autovero is calculated on the assessed value, not your sale price. So if you negotiated a low price, it doesn't reduce your tax bill. Conversely, a good deal doesn't help either. The assessed value is what matters.

Why do electric vehicles pay €0 autovero?

Under current Finnish rules, fully electric passenger cars have a 0% car tax rate, so autovero is €0 regardless of assessed value. That can change if legislation changes — always check the latest Verohallinto guidance.

Why do PHEVs pay less tax than equivalent petrol cars?

It's a range based on real comparable decisions — not a guarantee. The spread reflects how much assessed values vary across specifications, condition, and timing. Use it to get a feel for the ballpark before you commit to a specific car. For the exact number, you need a real Verohallinto decision on your specific vehicle.

Why does the estimate show a range, not a single number?

Even similar imports don't get identical assessments. Showing median, min, and max (and the decisions behind them) is more honest than a single fake-precise figure. Trust the spread, then inspect the comparable records.
